BSCH buys control of largest Latin American Financial Internet site
Banco Santander Central Hispano is to buy a controlling interest in Patagon.com, described as the:
'biggest financial services portal in Latin America and generates 15 million page visits a month'
BSCH also describes the step as 'the first move in the group's global strategy in the telecommunications and Internet business'
The bank is variously reported as paying $500m (E518m UKP317m) or $525m to gain 75% of the equity. The remaining equity stays with the two founders of Patagon.
