Portuguese government may try and keep Banco Pinto e Sotto Mayor |

| |
The Financial Times has repeated its opinion that the Portuguese Government may try and keep the largest of the banks owned by Mundial Confianca and not allow it to go as part of the sale to the Spanish BSCH. The article suggests that Caixa Geral de Depositos will acquire the bank, and possibly some of the other holdings of Mundial. Caixa Ceral de Depositos is state owned.
Elsewhere in the story it quotes directly from an interview with Joaquim Moura, Finance and Economy Minister, however this particular detail is not attributed to any particular source. Moura is due to present the Portuguese settlement plan in Brussels this week. The long running dispute between the Portuguese Government and the European Commission relates to the government blocking the acquisition of Mundial Confianca by the Spanish Bank.
